Winter Nyack Rec Dept Classes Start in Feb

by Melody Partrick, Nyack Recreation Director

If your New Year’s resolutions included learning a new sport, taking up a musical instrument, trying a new hobby or just getting in shape, the Village of Nyack Recreation Department is here to help.

February 9 marks the beginning of six weeks of Winter Recreation Programs running through March 27.

Adult Programs

  • For your creative side, there’s an Intricate Paper Cut Art class where you’ll learn that scissors +  imagination = beautiful artwork.
  • To help your inner rock star shine through, there’s an Intro To Guitar class taught by Rivertown Music.
  • And if you need to work off some of those holiday-inspired extra pounds, sign up for the Fit for Life strength and conditioning small group class. Nyack Fitness is also offering yoga, spin class and Pilates classes where you can pick the day and time that works for you.

Kids and Tweens

Kids aged 3-5 can sign up for a soccer class during the Winter Rec session. For grades K-5, there’s a Fencing class, an Intro to Piano class and a Mix Media Art class. Grades 6-8 might want to try Fencing, the Be Strong youth strength and conditioning class, How to Make a Music Video class or or the Intricate Paper Cut Art class.

If you are a worried about making the wrong choice, we know that right class for you: you can sample Try out Making Music Videos on January 13 and/or Be Strong on January 22 to see if these classes are the right choices for you!

Special Events

The Orangetown Police Department is also offering a four week educational program covering cyber bullying, internet safety, alcohol and drugs dangers and strategies, and police and kids interactions.
