Baking Up A Storm of Neat Holiday Treats To Eat

It’s that time of the year again when the holidays are upon us. If you want to take a break from sitting in the house sipping hot chocolate and watching movies, take some time to attend one of these fabulous baking events with your family at our local libraries.

Orangeburg Library: Gingerbread Houses- Family Program

Monday December 8, 2014 7-8:30p

Families have the chance to put their creativity together by decorating gingerbread houses. Register online, by email or call 845 359 2244 x15. The Orangeburg Library is located at 20 S. Greenbush Rd, Orangeburg, NY 10962.

Valley Cottage Library: Crafty Cookies for Children

Tuesday December 9, 2014 4:30-5:45p

This tasty event is for children in grades 1-5. Children will have a sweet day after listening to stories, playing ‘Baker Bingo,’ and decorating cookies with ‘Crafty Carolyn’ Travers. Registration for this free event begins on December 2, 2014 in person or by calling the Children’s room at 845-268-7700. Upon arrival, please gather in the children’s room to sign in. Valley Cottage Library: Create a Gingerbread House Family Event!

Saturday, December 13, 2014 12-2p

Come decorate a house for a gingerbread family that you get to take home and eat if you get hungry. Children ages 3 and up with an adult are welcome to join in on this holiday fun.  Registration for this free event begins on December 6, 2014 in person or by calling the Children’s room at 845-268-7700. New City Library: 3rd Annual Cookie Decorating Fun for Kids

Friday December 12, 2014 3:30-4:30p

Children ages 6-8 have the chance to create their own cookies with various designs. This free event is limited to ten children that are New City or West Nyack library card holders. Registration begins on December 5, 2014 by stopping by the children’s room or by calling 845 634 4997 x122. This event will take place in the Storytime Room at the New City Library located at 220 N. Main St New City, NY 10956.

Haverstraw King’s Daughter Library: Chocolate Truffles for Adults

Monday December 15, 2014 6:30-8:45p

If you or someone you know is a chocolate lover, then this is the perfect event to attend. Kim Hendrickson will be demonstrating how to make different chocolate ganaches which is the basis for truffles. You will be given an assortment of coatings to roll them in such as ginger rum, mint, and champagne. Bring a take home container with you to this event so you can take home a pound of chocolates that you can keep for yourself or give as a holiday gift. The fee for this event is $6. You can register in person at the Haverstraw King’s Daughters Public Library located at 10 W. Ramapo Rd Garnerville, NY 10923.This event will take place in the Community Room – 301.

Nyack Library: Beautiful Holiday Mints for Adults

Wednesday December 17, 2014 7-8p

Adults are invited to learn the recipes for creamy mints by watching a live cooking demonstration.  These delicious mints can be given as a holiday gift with festive packaging ideas which will be presented at the event. Register onlineby email or call 845-358-3370 x235. This cooking program will be held  in the Community/Meeting Room of the Nyack Library, 59 S. Broadway.
