Healthy Eats in Nyack: Summer Style

Most of us try to lose weight just in time for the summer, but with all the barbecues and outings with friends, we find it a challenge to stay the course. The month of August features some great workshops, in and around Nyack, that offer food choices that are fun and healthy and won’t leave you feeling guilty!

Nyack Library Presents: Farm to Table Cooking

Tuesday August 5, 2014 at 7-9p

Join Brian Holbach, the owner and Chef of Rockland Roots, for a program about the fresh vegetables that are grown right here in Rockland County. West Nyack Library: Guilt Free Desserts

Finkelstein Memorial Library: Diet Talks

Tuesday August 5, 12, & 19, 2014 at 7-8:30p

The Finkelstein Memorial Library welcomes Janice Winbush, a Certified Dietitian Nutritionist and Certified Holistic Health Coach. Ms. Winbush will be providing information to the public about three different diets.

  • On August 5, those who attend will be informed about the Paleolithic Diet which is also known as the Paleo, or Primal Diet. This particular diet believes in the individual eating natural foods for the best possible health. Ms. Winbush will discuss with you the pros and cons of this particular diet as well as the diet guidelines.
  • On August 12, you can look forward to hearing information about the Gluten Free Diet. In supermarkets these days, there is an isle dedicated to gluten free foods for individuals that cannot have gluten in their diets. If you are unsure of what a gluten free diet consists of, Ms. Winbush will explain the benefits of a gluten free diet, what foods to eat as well as what foods to avoid.
  •  On August 19, the evening will be a night dedicated to the Vegan Diet. Ms. Winbush will provide you with the pros, the cons and dos and the don’ts of a vegan diet. She will present the possible benefits of this diet, such as heart health, weight loss, and diabetes prevention or control.

The Haverstraw King’s Daughters Public Library: Cooking with Chef Shawn
