On any given weekend, Nyack is a very walkable village but once a year it becomes ARTWalk-able. For three days each June, the public is invited to meet local artists and see their special work.
On June 13-15, Nyack retail shops will be transformed into pop-up art galleries where local artists will be on hand to display and discuss their work. More than 25 artists will participate in the 9th annual ART WALK on Friday from 7-9p, Saturday between 12n and 9p and on Sunday from 12-5p.
Each venue will feature an artist’s work relating to this year’s theme, “A Celebration of Life…and Death.”
An ART WALK First:
Featured Writer
As this year’s featured writer, Fran Smith, author of “Changing the Way We Die” will be hold a series of book signings at Harbor Hill on ART WALK weekend on Friday from 7-9p, Saturday 1-3p and Sunday from 1-4p.
Smith’s book offers a bracing introduction to hospice at a time when an aging nation needs to consider alternative to expensive and often inhumane medical practices.
Harbor Hill is located at 91 Main St in Nyack.
“The beauty of the ART WALK is how the artists are always beside their work which allows the public to interact with the artists,” says p.ross boutique owner Paulette Ross. “That’s the difference between going to an art gallery and attending ART WALK–this is more personal.”
There will also be an opening reception for Kerri Lee Green‘s exhibit, Boxes and Bags at Amis Gallery 79 1/2 S. Broadway. The exhibit will be on display during ART WALK weekend, June 14-15 from 12-5p. Regular hours are Wed-Fri 11a-5p and Sat-Sun from 12-5p until June 30. Proceeds from the exhibit will go to support the Nyack Homeless Project.
Artistic photographer Sona Viola’s photo “The 3 Gold Buttons” was chosen to represent the 2014 ART WALK theme. “The photograph, which has an unbelievable backstory, captures the very essence of life’s hardships and joys,” Ross said.
