Environmental, Aging Award Nominees Sought

RocklandCountySeal201402Do you know someone who has done extraordinary work as a senior member of our community or as an advocate for the environment? Rockland County wants to make an example of them —  in a good way.

Nominations are now being accepted for the annual Outstanding Environmental Volunteer and the 2014 Senior Citizen of the Year. The deadline for submitting a nomination is the end of this month.

The 17th Annual County Executive’s Outstanding Environmental Volunteer Award recognizes environmental volunteers who care for our parks, champion our watershed programs, encourage recycling, and enhance and beautify our environment. The Rockland County Division of Environmental Resources will consider Rockland residents who are 18 years or older. Rockland County Executive Ed Day will honor this year’s winner at a tree planting ceremony at Kennedy Dells Park at 11a on Wednesday, April 23, 2014. To nominated a worthy individual, call the Division of Environmental Resources at 845-364-2670 or email env@co.rockland.ny.us by April 1.

Nominations for the 2014 Senior Citizen of the Year and Outstanding Contribution by a Senior Citizen Awards are being considered by the Rockland County Office for the Aging Advisory Council through March 31. Nominees for both awards need to be 60 or older and live in the county. Nomination forms may be obtained by calling the Rockland County Office for the Aging at (845) 364-2110 or by visiting its website at www.rocklandgov.com/departments/aging.

The Senior Citizen of the Year volunteers, creates or plans programs that provide services and activities to enhance the lives of senior citizens in the community.  Additional volunteer work can also be considered.
