9/11 Events In Nyack, Rockland, OTown, CTown

Photo: Gazebo at Memorial Park in Nyack Credit: NyackBackYard.blogspot.comNyack, September 11, 2013 — Here are some of today’s Rockland County events to observe the 12th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy.

Memorial Park, Nyack, 6:30p — will remember Nyack residents Stacy Sennas McGowan, Welles Crowther, Jon Albert and Harry Wanamaker.  Family members have been invited to speak briefly. The American Legion will fire a salute to the heroes and victims from that day. Two moving musical tributes are planned: Pilgrim Baptist Church’s Joanne Saunders will sing the National Anthem and Nyack High School’s band leader Mike Smith will play taps. Four biodegradable lanterns will be launched out over the Hudson at the end of this 30 minute program.

Orangetown Town Hall, 6:30p — Supervisor Andy Stewart will lead a program that includes the Orangetown Color Guard, music from the Pearl River High School Glee Club and singer/song writer Joe Durso, a poem by Rockland County Poet Laureate Dan Masterson and the Reading of Names of Rockland County Victims.

Clarkstown Town Hall, 5p —  At the 9/11 memorial in the park immediately adjacent to Town Hall. Supervisor Alex Gromack, Town Council Members and Police Chief Sullivan will read the names of Rockland County individuals who passed away on 9/11.

Rockland County will hold a memorial observation of this day at Haverstraw Bay County Park, 8:30a.
