PROCEEDS TO BENEFIT THE REBUILDING OF THE NYACK MEMORIAL PARK PLAYGROUND.

If you haven’t noticed lately, there’s a lot going on in Nyack’s Memorial Park—and it’s really just the beginning. Among the latest projects is a renovation of the children’s playground.

Fundraising for the project is being undertaken by a recently revitalized Nyack Park Conservancy, which has a new slate of officers and board of directors. Among the bigger planned activities is a gala cocktail party on June 8 at the Glen Iris Estate in Upper Nyack. The playground project is being publicly funded by the community, which will be involved in all aspects of design and construction.

Kids Need a Fun, Safe Play Area

Last fall the Village of Nyack had to remove some of the wooden play structures in the playground because they’d become unsafe. While the Village of Nyack is committed to basic maintenance of the playground—which, among other things includes replenishing the fill material—it doesn’t have the money to undertake a complete renovation of the playground.

A group of concerned parents and residents has come together and formed the Children’s Playground Committee—under the auspices of the Nyack Park Conservancy—to oversee the playground renovation and fundraising. Among the planned projects are replacing the current rubber-mulch surfacing material with a natural engineered-wood fill that will bring the playground into ADA compliance for access by children with disabilities, acquiring new play pieces to replace the removed equipment, plus a slight expansion of the overall size of the playground allowed by the recently completed relocation of the baseball field. In addition, the village has secured funding for a children’s garden, which will be located adjacent to the playground. A longer-term project is replacing the broken sprinklers with a water-play area that includes natural elements.

Come Join Us at a Gala Event on the River

The Playground Committee’s major fundraising activity this spring will take place on Saturday June 8 from 6-8p with an evening of enchanting river views, friendship, and community—not to mention cocktails (provided by The Grape D’Vine, Palmieri Wines & Spirits, Wine for All, and the Andean Brewing Company) and appetizers (courtesy of The 9W Market)—at the Glen Iris Estate, located at 401 N. Broadway in Upper Nyack. In addition to the party and live classical music from musicians who will be performing at the Academy of Music Summer Festival, there will be an auction during the event. All the proceeds will go toward rebuilding the children’s playground. Tickets are priced at $95, and they can be purchased (PayPal, major credit cards) at www.nyackplayground.org. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door, with payment by credit card or check only (no cash).
