Kick Your Shoes Off For A Cause

Day Without Shoesby Maria Whittingham

On Tues April 16th you can make a personal statement on behalf of millions of children around the world who grow up barefoot and at risk for infections and disease. And all you have to do is take off your shoes.

This is the 4th consecutive year that Maria Luisa and ML Accessories is leading the barefoot charge during One Day Without Shoes to call attention to the impact that a simple pair of shoes can have on a child’s life. Many children in developing countries grow up without shoes, having to walk miles to attend school and get food, water and medical help. Our community can help increase awareness about the debilitating diseases to which children’s bare feet are exposed.

For many, wearing shoes is a personal fashion statement. This Tuesday is the one day when you can make a personal statement by NOT wearing shoes. By participating in the TOMS One Day Without Shoes event and encouraging others to do the same, you will be helping to bring attention to improve the health and educational opportunities for many children all over the world because in many areas, footwear is required to attend school.

Join us at ML Gifts & Accessories between 2:30-4:00pm on Tues April 16, and join our walk (you can even wear shoes if you want to!). We’ll have Tees, signs, stickers and more to get you all inspired for a walk and a drawing for three pairs of TOMS Shoes, too. The point is that we can and do while so many children don’t have the choose.

For more information and to join our shoeless crusade, visit our One Day Without Shoes page on Facebook.

Maria Whittingham is owner of Maria Luisa Boutique and ML Gifts and Accessories in Nyack, NY.
