No Name Nor’easter Will Likely Pack a Punch

The Lower Hudson Valley, Long Island and the Jersey Shore will collectively hold their breath for the next 24 hours to see if today’s Nor’easter will unravel the region’s fragile transportation and energy infrastructure following the havoc wrecked by Hurricane Sandy last week. We can expect wind speeds of over 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph beginning this afternoon and continuing into the early morning hours on Thurs.

Here’s the latest advisory from the National Weather Service for Rockland County:

There is a Wind Advisory now in effect from 1 PM Wed Nov 7 through 4am EST Thursday for interior portions of the lower Hudson Valley… southern Connecticut… and most of northeastern New Jersey.

• Hazards: Damaging winds.
• Winds: North 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.
• Timing: this afternoon and tonight.
• Impacts: winds of this magnitude will be capable of producing some downed trees and power lines.
• Precautionary/preparedness actions: A Wind Advisory is issued when sustained winds of 31 to 39 mph… or gusts of 46 to 57 mph… are expected or occurring. Winds this strong can make driving difficult… especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.
