Thank You, Certified Nurse Assistants

by Connie LaMotta

Valley Cottage, June 14 —  Certified Nurse Assistants at the The Family Council of the Nyack Manor Nursing Home received an unexpected surprise when they started their daily shifts. Family Council members greeted each CNA and thanked them for their care of the Council’s loved ones.

Each CNA was then shown the bench that is dedicated to them and the service they have given over the years. Each CNA also was given a personalized framed certificate of thanks from the Family Council. Bagels and Sweets were placed in the Certified Nurse Assistants’ break room and at each nursing station.

“It was a very moving experience for both CNA’s and Family Council members.  Many CNA’s and Family Council members embraced, with CNA’s saying it was the first time in their career that they ever had anything like this happen to them,” said Phyllis Hauben, Founder and Co-Chair of the Family Council.

The plaque is placed on the bench that sits near the front door.  It says:
“Dedicated to All the Certified Nurses Assistants;
In Appreciation of Their Hard Work and Compassionate Care;
June 14, 2012: Nyack Manor Family Council.

“Nursing assistants are key players in the lives of the people in their care, Ms. Hauben said.  “This is a way that the Family Council wanted to say thank you for the hard work CNA’s do in taking care of our loved ones.  We acknowledged that it is not an easy task but one that we know they do to the very best of their abilities.”

Each day, more than 2.5 million caregivers provide hands-on care to the nation’s frail, elderly, or chronically challenged citizens in nursing homes and other long term care settings.
