Nyack’s 2011 Earth Day Celebration

by Rachel Astarte Piccione

Preparations for Nyack’s Earth Day celebrations are underway. The event will be Saturday, April 30, with a rain date of May 1. At 10.30 a.m., The Parade of All Beings marches from Main Street to Memorial Park, where the Bee Green Fair will be held from 11a to 5p.

“Green”-themed performances and workshops will take place in the park all day long, featuring beekeeping demonstrations and education, composting, knitting, live music and dancing, Capoeira, a free yoga and qi gong class, games, contests, and much more. Rockland Men’s Group founder Tom Kelley will lead a drumming circle to close the day’s events.

Fair organizer and Parks Commissioner Marianne Olive (oliveboss@aol.com, 845-358-8540) is currently renting booths to anyone who will compliment the Earth Day event and is seeking volunteers for the day.
