Three Rockland residents who have made significant contributions to the advancement of equality, diversity, human rights and civil rights will be inducted into the county’s Civil and Human Rights Hall of Fame on Dec 8.
As Regional Director for the Mid-Hudson and Westchester Region NAACP, Wilbur Aldridge has worked tirelessly to eliminate discrimination in all forms. He developed a successful re-entry program for the prior convicted and strives for fair and affordable housing for all.
A humanitarian and retired Plastic and Reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Martha MacGuffie founded SHARE, a group whose mission is to improve the living conditions in other parts of the world such as Kenya where she frequently visits to assist children.
John Murphy has worked to protect the civil/human rights of all people, especially the disabled and disadvantaged with groups including Camp Venture, Loeb House, Joseph’s Home and St. Dominic’s Home for Children. Murphy is also a longtime Rockland County Legislator.
