If you don’t think these numbers reflect your situation — you might have only yourself to blame. One in four households in Nyack didn’t complete a census form. That 75 percent return rate is down four percent from the 79 percent participation rate ten years ago. Because lower income and less educated households are less likely to return a census form, the official counts might be skewed to upper income households.

The US Census Bureau is completing its tally of 2010 data. Official state counts will be published at the end of this year. Data to support redistricting will be available in February, 2011.
