Schools Open Campus Criteria, Tonight

Nyack, Sept 21 — Nyack’s Board of Education will update the public on its controversial “closed campus” pilot program with a workshop meeting tonight at 7:30p.

Interim Superintendent Jason Friedman is expected to announce the criteria for continuing the pilot program at the high school which has allotted $300,000 during the current school year to prevent 9th and 10th graders from leaving school grounds for lunch.

The additional expense covers the cost of adding ten additional security cameras to the 24 already in place and the hiring of up to eight more security people. The board said it will make a decision to extend or terminate the pilot program after examining how well it worked during the first two months of the school year.

Tuesday’s school board meeting is at 7:30p at the Nyack Schools’ Administration Building, 13A Dickinson Avenue in Nyack.
