Commuters: Gimme Shelter

Nyack, June 30 — Even the most dedicated public transportation enthusiast has to wonder about waiting for a bus in a driving rain or a biting winter wind. Now downtown Nyack bus commuters won’t have to think twice about the weather courtesy of a new bus shelter.

The shelter was installed this week near the M&T Bank at the corner of Artopee Way and Franklin Street.

“While it may seem a small thing to some, the lack of a bus shelter at that location was brought to our attention by a local resident who spoke for the community,” says Trustee Steve Knowlton.

The new shelter is adjacent to Nyack Plaza apartments and the Nyack Senior Center.

“The Village Board was able to help meet a community need with financial assistance from Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee,” Knowlton says. “We know there is much more to do, but it’s certainly nice to see tangible progress every once in a while.”
