So, who’s not running for the State Senate?
A little-known candidate for the 38th Senate District surfaced today at the State Democratic Convention in Rye Brook and party operatives are making introductions for him as he seeks State Senator Thomas Morahan’s seat. Lou Tharp, an author, swimming coach, and businessman from Upper Nyack is the candidate being introduced to convention goers by campaign regulars.
At this point, little is known about Tharp’s political views other than he supports marriage equality. He does have a biography online that supports a recent book he wrote. He has not been active in local or regional politics until now. Rockland County Democratic committee members are being told that Tharp already has a half million to spend on an upcoming campaign.
The last-minute marketing of Tharp at the convention brings the tally up to four Democratic State Senate candidates. Clarkstown Town Clerk David Carlucci, Tuxedo Town Supervisor Peter Dolan, and Ramapo resident Grant Valentine are also running for the office.
More news on this development will be available tomorrow.
