The film, named ‘€œBest Documentary’€ at the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival. ‘€œPray the Devil Back to Hell’€ chronicles a group of ordinary Liberian women ‘€“ Christians and Muslims- who created a non-violent, grassroots peace movement that ended their country’s bloody, 14 year civil war, ousted a brutal dictator, and laid the groundwork for Africa’s first democratically elected female President.
Director Gini Reticker, whose documentaries focus on women’s issues and who was nominated for an Oscar in 2004 for her short film, ‘€œAsylum’€, and Kenneth Cain, a human rights lawyer who served in the Office of Special Representative of the Secretary General for the United Nation’s Peacekeeping operation in Liberia will be present for a post-screening discussion. Local resident and screenwriter Susanna Styron will moderate the talk-back.
Pray the Devil Back to Hell will be shown on Saturday March 20 at 7:30p in observance of Women’s History Month. The Nyack Center is located at the corner of Broadway & DePew in Nyack, NY.
