The Hudson River Tubman Tunnel

by Joseph Mitlof

As a Black History Month project, HUGRS, the Historic UnderGround Railroad Society based in Nyack, is creating a petition to support the naming of the new L.I.R.R. tunnel as the “Harriet Tubman Memorial Tunnel.”

The new  “underground railroad” will connect Grand Central Terminal with the existing Queens terminus for the L.I.R.R.  The National Park Service, who oversee UnderGround Railroad projects,  plus local, state and federal pols will be solicited for support. Ideas, suggestions and guidance are welcome from local professionals experienced in petitions/efforts of this type. HUGRS is a small, privately funded  group with an abundance of good intentions but admittedly limited resources.
