As Others See Us: Café Barcel, in Nyack

“Only two months up and running, Café Barcel, in Nyack, seems to have established a sweet compact with locals,” writes Alice Gabriel in the NY Times. She offers high praise for the restaurant’s buñuelos and the rest of the restaurant’s Latin fusion fare.

SOME of us have sworn off all things glazed and jelly-filled, but if you call a doughnut a buñuelo, as they do at Café Barcel, and make a plump, cinnamon-laced confection that belongs in the deep-fried hall of fame, well, you will probably cause more than a few former doughnut addicts to fall off the wagon.

Kudos to the Times for reminding metro area readers that Nyack is a fine dining destination. But don’t depend on them for directions — the Café Barcel review is listed in a section called “Westchester Dining | Nyack.” Maybe Nyack should begin to brand itself  “The Hudson Village on the Left Bank” just so there isn’t any future confusion.
