Free Help for Non-Profits and Local Gov’ts

Local municipalities and non-profits have until Feb 9 to apply for free labor from Rockland County AmeriCorps. A new Rockland Employment Connections (REC) program will match out-of-work Rocklanders with municipal and non-profit groups that are need temporary staff.

Employers in the program will have up to one year of access to trained temporary help with skills that include computer programming, communications/media, administrative and office assistance, facilities and grounds services, financial services, social services and customer service.

REC is seeking placements for 20 AmeriCorps members: ten 400-hour service positions and ten 250-hour service positions to help fill employment gaps. Employers are required to provide meaningful service for each member over the course of up to one year, or 400 or 250 hours per service position, whichever comes first.

‘€œThis new program will be critical in assisting our non-for-profits and towns and villages that are struggling to make ends meet, while boosting the morale of our unemployed residents and keeping them active and vital while they are out of work,’€ says County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef.

Employer applications are due by Tuesday, February 9, 2010. For more information, call  845-638-5362 or e-mail kuriskoJ@co.rockland.ny.us.
