If You Can Text, You Can Help Haiti

Your can make an immediate $10 donation to Haiti relief efforts by texting the word Haiti to 90999.

The TextToHelp program is a join effort of the American Red Cross and The Wireless Foundation, a non-profit wing of the CTIA cell phone trade organization.

Text2Help was first used to raise funds for victims of Hurricane Katrina. A FAQ on Text2Help is available on the Red Cross website. Please note that standard text messaging rates still apply.

The Journal News has also published a list of organizations which are coordinating relief efforts. Here are three groups from Nyack on that list:

Nyack: Saint Ann’s Catholic Church, 16 Jefferson St. in Nyack, is accepting monetary donations for Haitian relief efforts.

Nyack: Trendsetters at 38 Franklin St. in Nyack is collecting canned goods, powdered baby milk, first aid supplies, clothes and shoes. Call 845-353-5701 for information.

Nyack: Tappan Zee Manor, 51 Mountainview Ave., Nyack, is collected medications, water, food, medical supplies, clothing, baby formula, diapers, batteries, flashlights and other basic supplies. Call 845-353-6100 for information.
