Head Start Party a Holiday Success

By Marianne Olive

Nyack, Dec 24 — A singing Santa and his guitar was the center of attraction on Tuesday at The Head Start Holiday Christmas Party.

Sponsored by Restaurant Row of Rockland, nine restaurants in Nyack donated lunch with juice and individual desserts, as well as providing all paper goods and utensils. They also bought presents or collected donations for every single child and wrapped each one of them.

It was a tremendously generous effort on the part of each restaurant during this hectic holiday season but the general consensus by every restaurant was that it was worth every nickel and the time and effort it took just to see these adorable little children’s eyes light up and their smiles from ear to ear.

Santa Claus sat with the kids on the floor of the Head Start Community Room singing Christmas carols accompanied by his guitar.

Afterward, the children were served a lovely delicious lunch by the restaurant owners and employees.

The following restaurants participated:

* Black Bear and Hudson House: Room 5 :17 children
* Manna and Casa Del Sol: Room 2: 17 children
* Nyack Gourmet and Reality Bites: Room3: 20 children
* Olive’s: Room 6: 17 children
* River Club: Room 4: 17 children
* 2 Spear and Nyack Seaport: Room 1: 8 children

Olive’s wants to thank Room 6 kids and teachers for being so entertaining and fun — they were  so polite and well mannered. They all told me their names and all got up with the teacher and sang us a song after they ate.

Each restaurant brought the wrapped toys, food, juice and all paper goods to the Head Start building, set up their room, served and then cleaned up. It gave the teachers, aids and assistants a little break and gave the restaurant people a chance to see what close up, what a tremendous program these people run for these little darling children who represent the future of our country. These children have a great head start on life with a solid beginning at our Head Start program we in Nyack are so proud of.

This is the spirit of Christmas…giving! Merry Christmas and Happy Hannukah and Happy etc to all!!!
