Rockland County Flood Advisory

Upton, NY 12/27/09 4:46a — The National Weather Service has issued a Rockland County flood advisory for urban and small stream flooding for rain and melting snow.

At 441a EST, light rain was ending across Rockland County. However…runoff from this rainfall in combination with melting snow has caused the Mahwah River at Suffern to exceed bankfull. Local authorities have advised that there is approximately 4 inches of standing water on state Hwy 59 near the intersection of Orange Ave and Wayne Ave. Minor flooding is all that is expected to occur…with the river cresting shortly and falling back below its flood stage of 4.0 ft later this morning.

Precautionary/Preparedness Actions…small creeks and streams will flood quickly…possibly covering roads and flooding nearby low areas. Be prepared to take action if the flooding threat increases…or a warning is issued.
