RPG enthusiasts can trade the World of Warcraft for the world of woodcraft this weekend at Hook Mountain. Hike along the Hudson and support the arts, too.
Hike the “Closter Landing Loop” in NJ on Sat 11/14: Meet at 10a the Kearney House at the Alpine Boat Basin & Picnic Area (PIP Exit 2) for a five mile three hour hike over moderate terrain. Due to the rain, the bench building and LumberJack Grub will be only on Sunday.
Build A Knickerbocker Bench With Cool Tools From Back in the Day and Today: Volunteers will team with instructors to build six rustic Knickerbocker Benches from fallen locust logs harvested along the 4.75 mile Nyack to Haverstraw trail. Adults and children volunteers will assist professional sawyers as they use the traditional tools of those who built the PIPC’s historic facilities, as well as contemporary gear such as portable band saw mills and laser levels.
Artists in the Parks will be exhibiting artwork for sale on Saturday 11/14 from 8a-4p in the historic powerhouse at Nyack Beach State Park. Several artists will be plein-air painting along the Nyack to Haverstraw Trail. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
Climb “The Giant Stairs” Sun 11/15: The State Line Lookout in Alpine (northbound PIP opposite Exit 3) is the starting point for this four mile three hour hike. Experienced hikers should meet at 10a for a challening hike which includes a difficult rock scramble with challenging slopes. No dogs or small children, please.
