Indian Point Siren Test Thurs at 1030a, 1p

If you are anywhere near the Indian Point Nuclear Facility at 1030a today, hold your ears…but DON’T PANIC. It’s only a scheduled test of the new siren system.

A full volume test of the alert and notification system  sirens located through the emergency planning zone will be held on Thursday October 22 at approximately 1030a. The sirens will sound for four minutes. This test may be repeated at 1p if necessary.

In the event of an actual emergency, the four minute sirens don’t signal an evacuation but are a prompt to tune to WHUD 100.7 FM for important information.

The new system includes 172 sirens covering the ten mile emergency planning zone around Indian Point. As part of a recent $30 million alert notification system upgrade, Entergy also offers the CodeRED reverse dial system to alert residents via phone.
