Correction on Health Care Story

On September 8th we ran a story about a one-year old baby in Nyack who was in need of an expensive operation to correct hearing loss. According to the child’s mother, the mother and daughter had been dropped by their health insurance provider, Hudson Health Plan, after this condition had been discovered.  We reported the story based on our conversations with the mother and her family, and did not talk with Hudson Health Plan.

Not for profit Medicaid managed care organizations such as Hudson Health Care are prohibited by New York State-sponsored health insurance enrollment criteria from dropping members because they have expensive conditions, nor can they ever deny coverage to anyone because of pre-existing conditions.

Hudson Health Plan, the health care provider for the baby we wrote about on September 8th, has asked us to publish this correction.
