Village To Clean Up Vacant Property

Second Avenue residents pleaded for help with a neighboring property at the 9/10 Village Board meeting.   The site is 28 Second Ave., between Gedney and Broadway.  The property has been unoccupied and the building left to deteriorate and the yard to grow wild.  The Village Building Department has been cited the owner for overgrown grass and hedges, and just recently for an abandoned car in the driveway. The structure, which is in disrepair, hasn’t been cited because the owner isn’t picking up the mail and the mailman won’t even go onto the porch to deliver the mail.

The Board was sympathetic and passed a resolution to authorize the Public Works to clean up the property and to add the expenses to the owner’s property taxes, which he has been paying.  There is a strict process the Village must follow, in which the owner must be notified by certified mail and 10 days to file a protest.  Village staff have been directed to send out a notice for the property maintenance, and citing and the notifying  the owner about the building condition.
