Romp Trial Set for Aug 27

August 27th is the trial date for Village of Nyack v. Romp Store. Owner Carol McIlmurray has argued that painting her store front is a freedom of speech issue. Nyack counters that McIlmurray is in violation of building and fire codes.  After a brief opening on July 4th, the store has been closed due to code violations.

“Nyack is an artists’ town. I find it paradoxical that [the village] is finding such issue with it,” McIlmurray told News12. ” I want to represent all of the artists that live in our community.”

McIlmurray says she has been hospitalized and has suffered serious health issues from the stress of fighting with the village.
