It’s often been said that Nyack is such a wonderfully eclectic and eccentric place that Martians could land here, feel right at home, and blend right in, but even wizened villagers could never recall what thousands of enthusiastic spectators lining village streets saw this morning ‘€“ an elephant parading down Main Street and Broadway before lumbering its way into Memorial Park.
The occasion ‘€“ held under brilliant, sunny skies — was the Old Tyme Circus Parade, which is only one of the many spectacular events that are part of the Amazing Grace Circus-in-the-Park Extravaganza running in Memorial Park from July 19th through August 2nd.
The circus features performances by the AGC youth troupe and special guest performers. Performances take place at 12 noon and 4:00 P.M. on Saturday July 25th and August 1st and at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday July 26th and August 2nd. There will also be a special gala benefit on Friday, July 31st at 7:30 P.M. Tickets are on sale at Riverspace or over the internet at www.riverspace.org
Founded in 2002, the Amazing Grace Circus describes itself as ‘€œthe New York Tri-State’s only year-round youth circus organization.’€ More information on the Amazing Grace Circus can be found at http://www.amazinggracecircus.org/
Extravaganza organizers describe the Circus-in-the-Park as a ‘€œregion-wide event to bring joy, smiles, and a little relief to an area beleaguered by the troubled economy.’€ Judging by the smiles and shouts for joy along the parade route, the organizers more than met their goal.
