Ex-Mayor’s Book A Hit With Critics

TerryHekkerTerry Hekker, Nyack’s first woman mayor, is a hit it in St. Petersburg, FL. At least as far as the glowing review of Hekker’s latest book in today’s St. Petersburg Times. “Some people in life catch a wave. Others are caught by an undertow,” writes columnist Robyn Blumner in a review of Disregard First Book, a followup to her 1979 bestseller, Ever Since Adam and Eve.

Hekker has appeared on the Today Show, Good Morning America, NPR and the BBC to promote Disregard First Book, about her journey from a promoter of stay-at-home motherhood through receiving divorce papers on her 40th wedding anniversary. In her January 2006 Modern Love column in the New York Times, Hekker talks about how she has coped with challenges and how they led to later success.
