Burrell To Step Down As School Board President

Nyack’s Board of Education will have a new president beginning in July. Bryan Burrell, board president for the past five years, has asked that his name be removed from consideration as school board president when the school trustees reorganize in July.

“While I have the energy, the ability and the educational passion to continue this full time job, it has become clear to me this week that I can no longer be effective as President of the school board,” Burrell wrote in an email to the school community.

In March, Burrell was recognized as the “Advocate of the Year” by the NYS School Boards Association. He  has served as a Nyack Schools’ trustee for the past 13 years, 12 of those years as a board officer. Burrell was re-elected to his seat in 2008 and plans to remain with the board as a trustee.
