Cornell Concerned Re Rock Co Psych Care

With Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern planning to shutter it’s in-patient psych program by September, Rockland County Legislature Chairwoman Harriet Cornell is concerned about the resources available for local inpatient psychiatric treatment for acute care needs. She’s called for talks at upcoming meetings of the legislature’s Multi Services and Budget & Finance committees.

“It is crucial that those suffering a mental health crisis receive coordinated care, just as one would expect during a time of a physical health crisis, says Cornell. ” I hope to determine that our county Department of Mental Health is working with mental health providers in Rockland to ensure a plan of action that can be operational as soon as possible.’€

Nyack Hospital does not have an inpatient program, other than for drug and alcohol cases. The  43-bed psychiatric care facility at the Robert L. Yeager Health Center in Pomona could pick up some of the slack but resources are limited and the Rockland County Department of Mental Health has been trying to outsource many of its programs .
