New Walkway Over The Hudson on DIY TV

A new episode of DIY Network’s Project Xtreme focuses on the new Walkway Over The Hudson pedestrian bridge under construction in Poughkeepsie, NY. Lauded as the “world’s tallest pedestrian walkway,” it refurbishes the Poughkeepsie-Highland Railroad Bridge first opened in 1889. The Walkway Over The Hudson will be officially opened and dedicated this Fall.

The walkway, currently under construction, will include a deck and safety railings running the full length of the bridge. Lanes will separate walkers from bicyclists and rollerbladers. Construction began in last summer with a a goal of completing the walkway this Fall as part of the 2009 Henry Hudson Quadricentennial celebration. When completed, the bridge will connect to 27 miles of rail trails and riverfront parks already built or planned in Ulster and Dutchess Counties.

The DIY Network is available on FiOS channel 167. The Project Xtreme episode about the Walkway Over The Hudson premiers at 10p EDT on Tues May 19, 2009.
