Forum on Property Tax Reform / Tax Fairness

The Rockland County Chapter of the Working Families Party will host a Forum on the Fair Share property & school tax ‘€œcircuit breaker’€ plan to reduce property taxes on middle & working class households on April 23 at 7:30 PM at the Fellowship of Reconciliation in Upper Nyack.

The Working Families ‘€œcircuit breaker’€ would cap property taxes above a certain percentage of a household’s income, ranging from 5% for people earning less than $25,000 to 9 % for those earning in excess of $250,000.

The difference between the taxes levied and the cap would be rebated to the homeowner by New York State.

The costs would be paid by postponing the tax cuts scheduled for 2012 for the wealthiest New Yorkers,: singles earning more than $200,000, joint filers earning more than 300,000.

State Senator Thomas Morahan, Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee & Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski will be there to discuss the proposals currently before the legislature and others.
