Next NYS Budget: $12M Less for Area Hospitals

The 2009-10 proposed New York State budget includes funding cuts to Rockland County hospitals. Nyack Hospital will see $5 million less and Good Samaritan in Suffern will be cut $12 million. That’s a small part of the $2.5 billion cutback health care providers will see in state and federal matching funds, according to the Hospital Association of New York.

Here are details as it will affect local hospitals. Because the analysis is clouded in healthcare and industry-speak, it’s somewhat difficult to determine how these categories will affect services and the area’s most needy patients.

Nyack Good Samaritan
Deficit Reduction Provisions $1,683,000 $2,431,000
Cuts, Redistributions and
Ambulatory Investment
$1,322,000 $939,000
Medicaid Managed Care $2,287,000 $3,687,000
Total $5,292,000 $7,057,000

The Nyack area impacts are part of a statewide analysis from Healthcare Association of New York State which lobbies on behalf of all New York’s hospitals and health systems with federal and state officials.
