RoCA Gallery Opening — Seven: Out of This World

SEVEN: OUT OF THIS WORLD

Rockland Center for the Arts Opening Reception: October 12th, 2008, 1pm-4pm

Curated by Daly Flanagan and Lynn Stein

Show runs October 12 – December 21, 2008

This show is an exhibition of contemporary artists whose work focuses on the unconscious mind and alternative realities. The participating artists are: Glynis Sweeny, Gabe Brown, Richard Deon, Michael Lucero, Portia Munson, Charlotte Schulz, and Ruth Waldman. Seven is RoCA’s biannual exhibition, celebrating the artists who live and work in the Hudson Valley region.

While these artists may not necessarily consider themselves surrealists, their ideas and motives can be compared to the surrealists’ intent of connecting to the subconscious mind and challenging our preconceptions of reality. They use irony and surprise in their work, allowing viewers to see what is beyond the ordinary.

Rockland Center for the Arts is located at 27 South Greenbush Road, West Nyack, NY 10994.
