No Fireworks this New Year’s Eve

The big local controversy recently was whether Nyack should have its traditional fireworks display on New Year’s Eve.  Evoking many close and divisive decisions by our Supreme Court, the Village Board on August 28 voted 3-2 not to fund the fireworks on New Year’s Eve.

Voting against, citing fiscal responsiblity, was Richard A. Kavesh, Denise Hogan and Louise Parker. Voting in favor, siting the importance of tradition and fun, was Marie Lorenzini and Mayor John Shields.
