Digging Out From The “Snowicane”

by Bill Demarest

NYACK – Storms like this one we just went through continue to remind me about some of the things, I feel, we are very lucky for in the Village of Nyack.

Number one on the list: The Nyack DPW.

Throughout this crazy “snowicane” the Nyack DPW crews and the highway department chief could constantly be seen pushing the snow aside, even through the worst of it. Taking a stroll through downtown on Saturday, all the main and side streets were open and clear. Life wasn’t back to “normal” yet, but there was plenty of place to park to go have lunch at O’Donoghue’s.

Number two on the list (and not necessarily ranking them second): The Nyack Fire Department. Volunteers of the fire department were out all night Friday and into Saturday responding to many calls of downed power lines. Up on High Avenue, the volunteers had to help O&R crews keep the area safe after a utility pole snapped up near Cemetery Lane and several lines were down on High Avenue.

Thanks for a good job.
