If you are looking for something different to do on Saturday, the River Rowing Association has two suggestions: watch and row.

The RRA hosts its annual Directors’ Cup Regatta on Rockland Lake from 8a-11a followed by awards and a picnic lunch. And if you want to try the sport for yourself, stick around for the free Learn-to-Row lessons from 1-4p.

“There were rowing regattas on Rockland Lake as far back as 1885, with races between Piermont and Nyack rowing clubs,” says RRA President Ivan Rudolph-Shabinsky, “It’s fun to know that we’re maintaining a tradition of Rockland Lake rowing.”

Anyone 12 and older can sign up for rowing lessons on Saturday at Lot 6. There are a limited number of lessons available, so come early, sign up for a free lesson and stay to enjoy the races!

The RRA Junior Competitive team, comprised of athletes from Nyack, Pearl River, Clarkstown North and South, Nanuet, and Tappan Zee high schools, will compete against the RRA Masters rowers for the coveted Directors Cup on Saturday at 8a.
