Clarkstown’s Town Clerk David Carlucci will attend the 2009 Personal Democracy Forum (PDF) courtesy of a fellowship from Google. The PDF brings together IT visionaries and public officials to talk about how tech can change government.
Carlucci, 27, has been a leader in using the Internet to make local government more in touch and online. His Facebook and blog pages include contact info via email, twitter and text. Among his initiatives are scanning and posting the town’s historical documents, many dating back to the mid-1700’s.
The Personal Democracy Forum is billed as a meeting for opinion leaders and technologists to exchange ideas and explore how technology and the Internet are changing politics, democracy, and society. “I really believe that technology is making government more open and accessible to everyone,” says Carlucci. “By implementing new technologies here at the Town Clerks office we are tearing down the walls of Town Hall and making government more open and accessible then ever before.”
