Gas Tax Capped in Rockland County

New City, Oct 18– Rockland will reduce it’s take on each gallon of gas sold in the county, resetting the sales tax cap to $2 per gallon regardless of how high the price of petrol goes. ‘€œThis is consumer-orientated legislation and will alleviate some of the burden forced on our public at the gas pump,’€ said Rockland County Legislator Ed Day, who introduced the legislation last Spring. According to Day, gas sold in Rockland County may be as much as eight cents less a gallon as a result of the reduced Rockland County tax.

Day says that the lower tax will help spur gasoline sales in the county, as Rockland residents will be less tempted to drive South and buy gas in Northern New Jersey. ‘€œWe don’t collect anything on out-of-state sales.  It is lost revenue.  We needed to re-establish this cap to do our utmost to keep our consumers right here in Rockland,’€ he said.
