August 2026: On Stage and Screen in Rockland

SPOTLIGHT: Penguin Rep Theatre: “Flying Toward the Sun”
World Premiere Musical
Now through September 6, 7 Crickettown Road, Stony Point

It’s 2015 and Gary Campbell plans on saving the world. But it’s only his first day on the job as an immigrant official and he confronts heartbreak and hope as he listens to the challenges and dreams of those looking to forge new lives in the United States, and then must decide their fate.

The world premiere musical is directed by Joe Brancato, Penguin’s founding artistic director, who calls it “a rousing new musical full of heart and soul.” The book is by Bill Nabel and music and lyrics are by Nabel and Neil Berg. The cast includes Michael Notardonato, Carolyn Burch, Ian Couleter-Buford, Joy Del Valley, Jonny Lee Jr., Cheryl Stern, and Robert Zelaya. Buy tickets

“The Servant of Two Masters”

This year, the organization’s 25th anniversary, the event will focus primarily on local people working in film, who will share the sources of their inspiration.
