On a sunny, chilly afternoon, a group of civic-minded locals calling themselves Singing Resistance Rockland took to Hezekiah Easter Park in downtown Nyack to promote peace and love and protest the war in Iran.
Organized by Jeffrey Friedberg of the local organization Music for Life, the sing along included a lengthy playlist of protest, peace and unity songs. Some of the songs, including “No Kings,” are now explicitly linked to resistance to the policies of the Trump administration, including immigration enforcement in liberal-leaning cities and military action abroad.
While dozens of locals lifted their voices together, the singers did face some resistance of their own as at least one Trump supporter who didn’t clearly appreciate the tuneful criticism.
Our peace-loving photographer Andrea Swenson captured all of the (mostly) harmonious action in our latest Photo Shoot! (Scroll down for more photos and a full slide show.)
