Commuting: The Friendly Conductor

Anyone who has ever lived by a mass transit schedule knows this heart attack moment: you are running for the train or the bus and you are *just barely* on time. Which is no guarantee you are going to make it.

Blogger TwiDurf has a great story about a friendly Metro North conductor who saved a heart attack and let her make the train. It happened in July — but it’s a story just right for the holiday season.

With the train in sight, I increased my pace. All of a sudden the conductor pops out of his control room and tells me not to have a heart attack, I would make the train. He asked where I was going. Then over the course of the next 50 minutes, he kept his eye on me and, as we passed under the Tappan Zee Bridge, he encouraged me to start gathering my stuff for the Tarrytown stop. What a guy.
