The photography of former Rockland Center for the Arts Board member, photographer and curator, Ned Harris, will be on display as the first exhibit of a series called “Angle of View” at RoCA beginning on Sept 11.
Ned HarrisNed Harris was born in the Bronx, lived and worked in New York City, and eventually moved to Nyack. He spent his early career painting in The Ghost Army during WWII.  One of his most iconic works is a collage photo of people communicating in New York telephone booths before they were rendered obsolete by cell phones.
In the mid-seventies, Harris had a second life as a curator, becoming chairman of the exhibition committee at RoCA. He presented exhibitions that included: “Works on Paper” with Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, and Richard Pousette.  “The Studio and the Set” exhibition featured the professional and personal works by more than 20 film and theatre scenic painters and designers residing in Rockland.
Harris was one of the featured story tellers in The Ghost Army of World War II, a book (and a movie by the same name) revealing the one time top secret WWII unit of artists that used inflatable tanks, sound effects and illusion to fool the Germans on the battlefields of Europe.
Ned Harris passed away in March, 2016, just two months shy of his 91st birthday.

The Ned Harris “Angle of View” exhibit will be on view Sept. 11 – Oct. 2, 2016 in Gallery One and Two. Regular hours are:  Mon-Fri 10-4; Sat 1-4, and Sun 1-4 pm.  For more information go to RocklandArtCenter.org or call 845-358-0877.
