Today In Nyack: April 1, 2018

April 1, 2018 — The Village of Nyack, anticipating the future effects of climate change and the Trump Administration’s roll back of environmental protections, has announced a full surrender.
Knowing that the Hudson River will someday rise and overwhelm the river villages, Nyack has decided to get ahead of the curve and flood its downtown, turning “Nyack On the Hudson” into  Venice On the Hudson.
Here are a few highlights of the new “A River Runs Through Us” marketing program.

  • Effective immediately, the new village slogan will be “Nyack Under The Hudson.”
  • Uber will open an office in Nyack to field test a new autonomous gondola service planned for Main Street. Also in the works: Nyack will get the ferry service it has always coveted, operating  water taxis between Tarrytown and the Palisades Center.
  • Spring, summer and fall Street Fairs will be replaced by seasonal Sea Fairs. (Dogs will still not be allowed).
  • “Ark & Soul on the Hudson.” ©2018 Kipp T Jarden. Originally published in It Takes A Village on 6/25/2011.

VisitNyack.com, whose tagline used to be “Art & Soul On The Hudson,” will begin using a new water-centric slogan, “Ark and Soul ‘neath the Hudson.”
  • The autumn non-profit event, The Great Nyack Get Together, will be rechristened The Great Nyack Wet Together.
  • The Penguin Plunge winter fundraiser will be relocated from Memorial Park and held instead at every intersection in the village.

Residents and businesses welcomed the decision to turn roads into kayak and canoe canals, as a final solution to Nyack’s perennial parking problems.
The village plans to introduce the “A River Runs Through Us” marketing campaign at a kick off event this spring featuring the Nyack High School Shloshing Band and two Riverdown Film hosted movies, Oceans 11 and The Little Mermaid.
