Nyack Library Hires New Business Manager,
Offers Cuentos y Canciones Para Los Niños,
Gets Outside With Stories To Go!

[highlight]The Latino/Hispanic population in Nyack has increased 72% since 2000.[/highlight] Many of the young children in these families have limited or no preschool experience.
  • Nyack Library is collaborating with the Nyack School District’s Family Resource Centers to offer Cuentos y Canciones, a weekly preschool story time for Spanish speaking families. Held on Mondays from 1p-2:30p in the Children’s Story Hour Room, the program offers free play and informal discussion with parents on child and school related issues followed by stories and songs  in both Spanish and English. Cuentos y Canciones is facilitated by Julie Kassel, Family Resource Coordinator at the Valley Cottage School, Claudia Uccellani, Youth Services Librarian ant Nyack Library, and Olga Carriel, Home to School Visitor for the Nyack School District.
  • Nyack Library Stories To GoIt’s time to get outside and read a book every Tuesday in May during Stories to Go, a free, half hour story time in the playground at Memorial Park. The program is designed for children ages 2 – 5 but all are welcome to attend. Stories to Go! Is held at 11a and is led by Youth Services Librarian, Claudia Uccellani.
  • Sharon Alfano joined the Nyack Library on May 20 as its new Business Manager, responsible for overseeing the day-to-day financial operations of the library, managing library property and working with the library director to create the annual budget. Previously, Alfano was business manager of the Hedberg Public Library in Janesville, Wisconsin. She replaces former Business Manager Stephen Hoefer, who now works for the Ramapo Catskill Library System (RCLS) as fiscal officer.
