Mon Morning Storm Update

Nyack, Dec 27 7a — Here are updates on the impact of the 2010 Day-After-Xmas storm from Metro North, O&R, the  Rockland County Dept of Transportation and the National Weather Service.

Metro North: A regular Sunday schedule is in effect on the Hudson lines serving Tarrytown.

Orange & Rockland: As of 6:30a, there are 160 customers without power in Rockland County has in multiple outage locations. Two Nyack locations are affected with 78 homes without power in the village and 20 customers disconnected in Upper Nyack. Barring any unforeseen developments, electric service is expected to be restored to these customers by 1p today.

About 460 O&R customers at 13 different damage locations are still without electric service at this hour. Sullivan County suffered the most impact with 211 customers without power. About 2,500 of the more than 3,000 customers whose service was interrupted late yesterday by storm damage are now back online.

Rockland County Dept of Transportation: There is a strong chance that TOR and TZx will be delayed this morning. For the most up to the minute updates on both services please call 845-364-3333.

  • TZx: Buses will operate normal weekday schedule with a chance of a delay to the start of service. Buses will operate local service on all trips throughout the County.
  • T.R.I.P.S: SERIVCE IS CANCELLED
  • TOR: Buses will operate normal weekday schedule with a chance of a delay to the start of service.

National Weather Service: This statement is in effect through noon Mon 12/27: Dangerous winter storm conditions this morning. Blizzard warning now in effect until noon EST today. The blizzard warning is now in effect until noon EST today.

Bands of moderate to heavy snow and strong winds with considerable blowing and drifting of snow with near zero visibility at times this morning.

Accumulations. 18 to 24 inches with locally higher amounts up to 30 inches possible.

Impacts: Extremely dangerous travel conditions due to significant snow accumulations and strong winds causing considerable blowing and drifting of snow this morning. Visibilities will be near zero at times with whiteout conditions expected. Strong winds may also down some power lines, tree limbs and Christmas decorations.

Timing. heaviest snow bands will taper off from west to east early this morning. Strong northwest winds will persist through this afternoon. Northwest winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected through this afternoon.
