Steve Knowlton will be appointed to the Village Board of Nyack filling the seat of Richard Kavesh who becomes mayor on January 1st.
Knowlton is currently chair of the Village Zoning Board of Appeals and has been instrumental in developing the new zoning code that was passed by the Village Board last week. He is a partner in the New York and New Jersey offices of Lock’s Law Firm.
“I feel great about Steve,” says Mayor-elect Richard Kavesh. “He is incredibly qualified, with a proven record with many years as the leader of the Zoning Board. He is the perfect man for the job in these difficult economic times.”
Kavesh says that in addition to Knowlton’s intelligence and experience, his collegiality and ability to work as a team member was a key reason he chose him for the job. “It’s a big relief to make the decision,” says Kavesh. “Now it is time to get together and hit the ground running in January.”
“I’m priveledged and honored to continue working for the village after nine years being chairman of the zoning board of appeals,” says Knowlton. He must step down as ZBA chair after he takes a seat on the Village Board.
Kavesh must vacate his trustee position when he becomes mayor on New Year’s Day but gets to appoint a replacement. Knowlton’s trustee position will be up for re-election in November 2010.
