The sun is out and businesses are slowly re-opening, but we have a feeling this will be another weekend inside. Here are a few safe sheltering suggestions for the the weekend and the week to come.

Entertaining and Educational
Jacob Burns Film Center has quickly adapted to the circumstances of Coronavirus. JCFB Staff have converted a large portion of their content into streaming format, enabling patrons to watch films and more while in the comfort and safety of their own homes. Go to the JBFC’s Virtual Screening Room to purchase new releases and support the JBFC and its independent distributors.
Check out the International Teen Film and Photo Festival this weekend for a showcase of the best work from young photographers and filmmakers from around the globe and the states. The entire festival will be available online. Viewers will see a plethora of different film genres over the course of the weekend, ranging from animated movies to dramas and even music videos. Holding the festival online enables viewers to vote for their favorite films using the Audience Choice Poll.
To celebrate the 194th birthday of Frederic Church, Olana has introduced OLANA EYE, a real-time stream that shares the view of the Hudson River as well as the Catskill Mountains. Users of the OLANA EYE will be able to see the Hudson Valley’s renowned sunrises and sunsets from the comfort of their couches.
Anyone can enjoy the beautiful flora of the New York Botanical Garden while it is temporarily closed. NYBG At Home offers videos of the garden, children’s recipes, and other virtual events. Take a virtual tour to be reminded of the joy of springtime in these trying times.
The Rockland Conservatory of Music has opened online enrollment for 2020-2021. Classes include Discovering Instruments, where students become acquainted with every family of instrument during a 6 week course; One-on-one lessons; and Music Therapy classes.
The magic of jazz often happens in person, in the moment. In lieu of live performances, many jazz musicians have chosen to stream their music. Lincoln Center is offering live jazz here.
Rivertown Film and and the Center for Safety and Change have partnered to stream two important new films by Rockland County female filmmakers related to the topic of #MeToo. The first comes this week: director Deborah Kampmeier’s new film TAPE, about the darker side of the entertainment industry. Kampmeier is a nationally known director of the films Hounddog, Virgin, and Split, and has directed episodes of Ava DuVernay’s Queen Sugar and Cherish the Day. TAPE, based on actual events, shows that the casting couch of Old Hollywood lore unfortunately isn’t dead. This film, premiering online due to theaters being shut down, will be available June 3 and 4. Tickets: $15/$12 for nonmembers/members. An online discussion with Deborah Kampmeier will be held on June 4 at 7:30p.

The Guggenheim Museum has taken its exhibits online. Curators showcase artwork reflecting this alarming and unprecedented period.
The Academy of American Poets created Shelter in Poems, a platform that invites lovers of poetry to share writing that inspires hope and safety during the pandemic. The Academy has also launched Shelter In Poems: A Virtual Reading, where users can listen to poems narrated by poets laureate and other notable writers, singers, and artists.
Even during NY Pause, RoCA continues its arts programming.
Although Rockland Center for the Arts (RoCA) remains closed due to NY Pause, it continues its mission of enrichment through the arts with programs that will inspire you to create in the current, collective situation. On Tue, June 2 at 3p, artist-educator Diane Rosen will host Creativity & Well-Being: Building on the Synergy, a workshop to engage creative problem-solving capacity.
